Lanscape Architect/Land Planner Department Head

MHG is located in Montgomery Village, Maryland and provides Civil Engineering, Surveying, Landscape Architecture and Land Planning Services throughout the DC Metro Area with a focus on Maryland jurisdictions.

We are seeking a creative licensed Landscape Architect/Land Planner with practical understanding to head our Landscape Architecture and Land Planning Department and be responsible for managing projects, collaborating with multi-disciplinary design teams, and lead in the design from concept to construction documents. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the following areas:​

About the position

  • Entitlement processes for Maryland Jurisdictions, Virginia and the District of Columbia

  • Client Maintenance, Networking and Business Development

  • Feasibility Studies and Conceptual Land Planning

  • Forest Conservation Planning

  • Site Planning including Expert Qualification

  • Urban Streetscape Design

  • Outdoor Amenity Space Design

  • Construction Document Preparation

  • Stormwater Management Facility Landscape Design

  • Use of AutoCAD and Vector Works software programs

  • Mentoring of junior staff

About You

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture

  • 7-10 years of experience

  • Licensed Landscape Architect

  • Use of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Vectorworks Landmark software programs

  • Passion for design, strong work ethic, sense of ownership and pride.

  • Experience collaborating with clients, consultants, review agencies, and stakeholders.

  • Project and Personnel Management Experience

  • LEED credentials are a plus.

Landscape Architect

MHG a Consulting Engineering, Surveying, Land Planning and Landscape Architecture firm in Montgomery County, Maryland is seeking an Entry to Mid-Level Project Manager. This role involves supporting the Senior Project Manager, collaborating with clients, design teams, and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate will have experience or education in the following areas

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Site Civil Engineering and/or project manager experience in a related field.

  • Ability to comprehend and implement jurisdictional requirements related to site specific design.

  • Excellent computer skills to include proficiency in AutoCAD Land Development Desktop and Carlson Civil or similar CAD program.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).

  • B.S. Degree in Civil, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science or similar related field.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing direct knowledge of local, Maryland or DC’s planning/zoning and development process.

  • An understanding of environmental planning, land use, zoning, transportation, planning, 

  • Experience in

  • Ability to conduct field investigations and produce technical reports of the natural environment sometimes in difficult environments (forests, steep, terrain, variable soils, and wetlands) and weather conditions

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Willingness and desire to learn and 

  • An understanding of forest conservation, natural resource mapping and wetland ecology preferred or an interest and willingness to learn and pursue additional certification.
