ROCKVILLE TOWN SQUARE
Rockville Town Square is located in the heart of downtown Rockville envisioned as an urban plaza providing active pedestrian oriented space that offers year round engagement. Once occupied by an underutilized shopping center, the City of Rockville sought to revive the site through a carefully executed master plan. The result is a mixed-use development that offers unique local restaurants and specialty shops, multifamily apartments, a public library, and urban outdoor spaces for the community’s enjoyment. This includes a vibrant plaza space that changes with the seasons: a splash fountain occupied by children in summer, which transforms into an ice rink come December and a spacious lawn offering picnicking and relaxation in the warmer months. A large pavilion area sets the stage for concerts, music festivals, fitness classes, and family movie nights. Lively fountains and sculptures can be found along the wide pedestrian walkways allowing local businesses to expand into the outdoor spaces for café seating and engage the city’s residents through street side dining and open-air events. In addition to the plaza and streetscape work MHG provided all civil engineering, construction surveys, and construction administration services on this development.
