THE DIENER SCHOOL
The Diener School is a local school providing education for students in kindergarten through 8th grade within unique learning needs. After outgrowing their facility, Diener embarked on a journey to find a new home in 2022 and ultimately purchased a former office property on Old Georgetown Road (MD-187). The existing office building was renovated, and the exterior was transformed to meet the parking, circulation and functional needs of the school. Significant road frontage improvements were requested by Montgomery County, widening the public space and exacerbating the already challenging grade differential at the front of the property. To provide an accessible route from the public space to the building, a freestanding elevator was constructed, flanked by new stormwater management facilities on either side. Multiple jurisdictional approvals were required, and being a relocation of the school, the project schedule was extremely important.
MHG provided Civil Engineering, Land Planning, and Land Surveying services for the project, from its original conception, through final construction. As a Conditional Use, MHG also served as an expert witness during the zoning approval process.
